2008-09 Club Profile: Buducnost
KK BuducnostFew teams bridged the 20th and 21st centuries with quite the same style as did Buducnost. The team from Podgorica, Montenegro, earned its name among the top clubs in Europe after it thoroughly dominated the Yugoslavian League at the end of the 1990s and into the new millennium.

Three straight Yugoslavian League titles were forged by a record-setting domestic winning streak of 51 games that ran from 1999 to 2001. Players like Dejan Tomasevic, Milenko Topic and Vlado Scepanovic helped make it all possible, but Buducnost had started its trophy collection with Yugoslavian Cup titles in 1996 and 1998. Another cup trophy gave it a league-cup "double" in 2001. Buducnost was also a force in the Euroleague in 2000-01, reaching the first playoff round. In 2001-02 and 2002-03, however, it failed to make the Top 16. Its Yugoslavian League title streak also came to an end in 2002. A quiet period would follow, as some of the club's young talents moved on and Buducnost entered the ULEB Cup, where in its first season it posted a 5-5 mark and missed out on the playoffs. It also missed out on the Adriatic League Final Four by finishing in fifth place. Buducnost returned to the ULEB Cup in 2004-05 but missed the elimination rounds again, as well as not reaching the Serbia and Montenegro League playoffs. That changed in 2005-06, as Buducnost reached the Serbia and Montenegro semifinals, in its last appearance in the competition. Just as expected, Buducnost is the new team to beat in the reborn Montenegrin League and won the title in 2007 and 2008 with a combined 45-1 record. Buducnost also reached the ULEB Cup elimination rounds for the first time in club history. It now enters its fourth ULEB Cup with the hope to make a whole new country proud of its efforts.
