Qualifying Round C, Game 2 preview: Hapoel Jerusalem - Unics Kazan
Hapoel Jerusalem faces a long road to come back from with a 22-point deficit in its Eurocup second qualifying round, second leg at home against Unics Kazan. Head coach Guy Goodes's Jerusalem failed to pressure Kazan, forcing just 9 turnovers and allowing Unics to shoot 52% in losing 88-66 on the road. Goodes's outside shooters made just 1-of-10 from long range, though guard Timothy Bowers had 18 points, center Travis Watson collected 14 points and 10 rebounds and guard Yuval Naimy added 11 points. But the Israeli side did not get enough help from the rest of the team. Plus making just 19 of 31 (61%) free throws did not help. Head coach Aco Petrovic's Unics Kazan meanwhile has rebounded well from its first round first leg struggles and goes to Israel with a 22-point lead. Guard Terrell Lyday led the way with 17 points while four other players scored in double figures including forward Vladimir Veremeenko collecting 13 points and 11 rebounds. Petrovic's team made 11 three-pointers and did an excellent job taking care of the ball. But Kazan must be careful in Jerusalem after losing to Hapoel by 39 points during last season's ULEB Cup campaign. Petrovic will surely have his troops forewarned.
