Maroussi pens scorer Giorgos Diamantopoulos
One week before the club's Eurocup Group D opener, Maroussi Costa Coffee inked a prolific scorer by signing Giorgos Diamantopoulos. He replaces Nikolay Padius, who was released few days ago. Diamantopoulos (195, 28) is the son of great scorer Kostas Diamantopoulos, who was also his first coach. He grew up at Papagou, where he made his premiere at the age of 15. In 1999, Diamantopoulos moved to Panionios where he spent four brilliant seasons and emerged as the best scorer in the Greek League during the 2002-03 season, averaging 26.4 points per game. He tasted the Euroleague in the 2003-04 season with Olympiacos, then returned to Panionios and his since played for Roseto in Italy, Mallorca in Spain and Samara in Russia, where he won the 2006-07 FIBA Eurocup Challenge. Last season he played for Kolossos Rhodes, averaging 14.9 points per game.
