Regular season Week 2 MVP: Travis Hansen, Dynamo Moscow
An outstanding performance in a winning effort was required for Travis Hansen of Dynamo Moscow to become the Week 2 MVP in arguably the closest race for the honor all decade in European competition. Hansen led Dynamo to a 94-78 home win against Lukoil Academic with 23 points on 3-for-4 three-point shooting and added 8 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists, 1 block and 7 fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 30. Although three other players tied for the same index rating, Hansen is the MVP because he was the only one among them whose team was victorious in Week 2. The award goes to the player with the best performance for a winning team. The other three players who Hansen tied - Chris Monroe of Chorale Roanne, Gregor Fucka of Fortitudo Bologna and Chuck Eidson of Lietuvos Rytas - all were stellar in losing efforts. Monroe had 22 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 12 fouls drawn against Maroussi Costa Coffee. Eidson had 27 points, 3 steals and 5 fouls drawn against Kalise Gran Canaria. And Fucka contributed 17 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 7 fouls drawn against Pamesa Valencia. Chevy Troutman of Asvel Basket and Tomas Van den Spiegel of Azovmash Mariupol, who each clocked a 29 index rating, completed the top individual performances in the Eurocup this week.
Individual highs: Chuck Eidson, Lietuvos Rytas, 27 points
Eidson was the Eurocup Week 2 top scorer with 27 points in his team's loss against Gran Canaria. Corey Brewer, the competition's second-best scorer all-time, leads the regular season standings at 24 points per game. As many as five players - Boban Marjanovic of Hemofarm Stada, Demetrius Alexander of Barons/LMT, Predrag Samardziski of FMP, Bruno Sundov of ASK Riga and Judson Wallace of Benetton Basket Tamoil - pulled down 11 rebounds in this round. Kenny Adeleke of Lukoil Academic is the Eurocup top rebounder overall, however, at 13 boards per night. Mire Chatman of Besiktas Cola Turka was the only player to record double digits in assists by dishing 12 in his team's road win in Le Havre. He also leads the overall assists table at 8 per game. Ruben Douglas of Pamesa Valencia collected 6 steals against his former team, Fortitudo Bologna. Douglas ties atop the steals standings with Mindaugas Lukauskis of Lietuvos Rytas (4 spg.). John Turek of PGE Turow had 3 blocks to lead the weekly standings. He is second overall, right behind his teammate Darian Townes (3.5 bpg.). Seven players - Marjanovic, Alexander, Sundov, Samardziski, Adeleke, Kennedy Winston of Turk Telekom and Jorge Garbajosa of Khimki - registered respective double-doubles in this round.
