Regular season, Week 2 in review
Week 2 of the Eurocup saw a number of twists and turns in the group standings as all teams are still trying to mount charges towards the Last 16. A third of the way through the regular season, only four teams can boast sole possession of first place in their groups. In two of the other groups, there are two undefeated teams that will square off next week in crucial matchups, while two more groups feature four teams all tied up at 1-1. Eight teams can boast perfect records after Week 2. In Group B, two teams from Russia,
Dynamo Moscow
and
Unics Kazan
, remain undefeated ahead of a head-to-head duel next week. In Group D,
Turk Telekom
and
Aris BSA 2003
both won and will face off next week with first place on the line.
Benetton Basket
improved to 2-0 to lead Group C, while
Besiktas Cola Turka
picked up its first win on the road.
Spirou Charleroi
sits atop Group F and the team it beat last week,
Red Star
, also won.
Pamesa Valencia
established itself as the team to beat in Group G with a big road win at Fortitudo sparked by a former hero for the losers, Ruben Douglas. And
BC FMP
earned its first win.

was a road winner to get to 2-0 in Group H, where

GROUP A
The two Week 1 losers from Group A turned the tables in Week 2 to leave all four teams at 1-1. ASK Riga outlasted Zadar 106-94 in a high-scoring thriller. Bruno Sundov led the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Corey Brewer, who ranks second on the competition's all-time scoring list, added 21. Brewer now leads the Eurocup this season with an average of 24 points per game. Maroussi Costa Coffee topped Chorale Roanne 88-73 behind big games from Loukas Mavrokefalides and Kostas Charalampidis. Mavrokefalides dominated inside to the tune of 23 points and 9 rebounds, while Charalampidis shot 5 for 7 from downtown en route to 17 points.
GROUP B
Dynamo Moscow remained undefeated in Group B and set up a major showdown next week by thrashing Lukoil Academic 94-78. Dynamo visits Unics Kazan next week in a clash of the group’s two undefeated sides with first place on the line. Travis Hansen scored 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds en route to earning weekly MVP honors for the first time. Academic's Kenny Adelke posted 16 points and 10 rebounds in defeat and now leads the Eurocup with 13 rebounds per game. Unica kept pace with Dynamo by handling Barons/LMT Riga 76-55. Marko Popovic scored 15 to lead Kazan, whose defense silenced the visitors, holding them to 20 points in the middle two periods.
GROUP C
Benetton Treviso won its eighth straight regular season game by besting Khimki Moscow 77-59. Gary Neal led the way with 24 points and Sandro Nicevic continued his strong start to the season with 18 points as Benetton took hold of first place in Group C at 2-0. Besiktas Cola Turka picked up its first win by beating STB Le Havre 61-68 thanks to a big game from Mire Chatman. The point guard scored 9 points and dished 12 assists as he cracked the competition’s all-time top 10 in assists. Chatman began the week in 15th place, but stormed up the list to ninth with 125 career assists. Todor Stoykov of Lukoil Academic is the all-time leader with 171 career assists.
GROUP D
Turk Telekom and Aris BSA 2003 set up a showdown for the top spot in Group D next week by winning at home as they each improved to 2-0. Telekom held of Panellinios 70-64 thanks to some great shooting down the stretch to remain undefeated at home over the past two seasons. Telekom has also won nine straight regular season games and 10 of 11 overall in the competion with the only loss coming at Unics Kazan in the last 32 Last season. Aris topped Bnei Eshet Tours Hasharon 84-71 as all five starters scored at least a dozen points. Keyden Clark led the way with 15 points and Spencer Nelson added 14 points and 6 assists as Aris took advantage of the visitors' 22 turnovers.
GROUP E
The home teams remained perfect in Group E with all four teams now at 1-1. Kalise Gran Canaria outlasted Lietuvos Rytas 94-83 as Joel Freeland pumped in a Eurocup career-high 20 points. The hosts made their move with a 10-0 second-period run and then held on in the second half for their seventh straight Eurocup home win. Chuck Eidson led L. Rytas with 27 points. Amara Sy and Chevon Troutman combined for 46 points as Asvel Basket evened its record by holding on for an 85-83 victory over Azovmash Mariupol. Troutman scored 7 of his 22 points in the game-deciding 11-0 fourth-quarter run while Sy hit a number of important baskets to finish with 24 points and 4 assists.
GROUP F
Spirou Charleroi established itself as the team to beat in Group F by blasting PGE Turow on the road 61-88. Jerry Johnson scored 17 and 10 Spirou players scored at least 5 points as Charleroi became one of only four teams to win on the road in Week 2. Red Star bounced back from an opening night loss by handling Brose Baskets Bamberg 82-65. Red Star used a balanced effort that saw six players score at least 9 points and 11 make field goals. Lawrence Roberts paced Red Star with 13 points and 8 rebounds.
GROUP G
Pamesa Valencia put itself at the top of Group G and Fortitudo in trouble by holding onto a 71-77 road victory in Bologna, Italy. Pamesa is now 2-0 and alone in first place. A recent Fortitudo hero, Ruben Douglas, paced the winners from Valencia with 20 points and 6 steals, while Kosta Perovic recorded 16 points and 8 rebounds. Veteran big man Gregor Fucka paced Bologna with 17 points and 8 rebounds. BC FMP routed the Artland Dragons 93-65. The hosts dominated from start to finish, opening the game on an 18-0 tear and never looking back. Predrag Samardziski dominated inside with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocked shots for his first double-double since opening night last season.
GROUP H
iurbentia Basket Bilbao made a fantastic fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Buducnost m-tel 65-67 on the road in Montenegro as it grabbed exclusive hold on first place in Group H. Bilbao held Buducnost scoreless for nearly seven-and-a-half minutes in the fourth quarter as it outscored the hosts 7-22 for the win. Javi Salgado scored 10 of his 20 points in that final quarter to lead his team to the victory. Boban Marjanovic had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Stefan Markovic scored 17 points as Hemofarm Stada knocked off CEZ Nymburk 82-74.Hemofarm used a 17-2 run in the second quarter to take control of the game en route to the win.
