Week 4, Group D update
As the only undefeated team left in the competition, Crvena Zvezda has taken a tough group by the throat in impressive fashion, led by Milan Gurovic scoring at a higher rate than anyone in the history of the ULEB Cup through four games. Unics Kazan, whose only loss was by 3 points to C. Zvezda on the road, is also sitting pretty in second place. The rest of the teams have to make things happen soon.
PAOK has won a road game and now can survive by winning at home. The key game in Week 5, however, will be Real Madrid hosting Dexia Mons. Neither probably expected to be tied with the other and one will take a one-victory lead on the other at the halfway mark in the season. They will meet again in the last regular season game, but the edge will probably be for whichever of them wins in Week 5.
Who's hot:
Milan Gurovic continues to dominate with 30.3 points per game, but was outscored in his own group by Week 4 MVP Saulius Stombergas of Unics, whose 29 points on near-perfect shooting sank Real Madrid in overtime. Jarod Stevenson of Unics had the week's fifth-best index rating, too.
Who's not:
Mathias Desaever of Mons is scoring little for a shooting guard. His 0-for-4 from the field against C. Zvezda in 26 minutes lowered his highest accuracy rate for the season, including free throws, to 33.3%.
Week 3 surprise:
Raul Lopez of Real Madrid busted out by hitting 5 three-pointers among 18 points last week. That marked his second-best night from the arc ever in European competition.
Week 4 Game to watch:
PAOK vs. Unics will be a telling test for both teams. PAOK can prove its homecourt advantage against a powerhouse - and tie it in the standings. Unics can show that it plans to threaten C. Zvezda for first place the rest of the way.
Did you know?
After four weeks, Group D still has the top three individual performers in terms of average index rating - Gurovic, Unics player Ksistof Lavrinovic and Mons players George Evans - and seven of the ULEB Cup's top 13 scorers.

Key stat:
PAOK has the group's highest free throw rate - 81% - and gets to the line almost as much as the other teams, except C. Zvezda. Gurovic alone has attempted 51 free throws, while PAOK's whole team has been to the line only 68 times.
