The first week of Last 16 play in the 2008-09 Eurocup proved mostly good to home teams, but not so comfortable for all of them, even in victory. Seven of eight home teams took victories, but some barely escaped as four games were decided by a total of 20 points and another went to overtime. The big winner had to be the only road warrior, Pamesa Valencia in Group K, which rallied from 14 points down to defeat Crvena Zvezda 73-85 as Vule Avdalovic had 17 points. Pamesa hasn't lost yet in the competition, the same as fellow-Spanish club irubentia Bilbao which won its Group J opener 71-62 over visiting Artland Dragons as big man Drago Pasalic had a double-double. A third undefeated team from the regular season fell, however, when Benetton Basket outlasted Unics 68-66 on Judson Wallace's 12 points and 9 rebounds. Home victory proved difficult, too, for Hemofarm Stada, an 84-74 winner in overtime against Azovmash Mariupol thanks to Milan Macvan's 24 points, and for Spirou Basket, which held back Lietuvos Rytas 78-74 as Jerry Johnson scored 22. Similarly, Dynamo Mosocow, which lost all of a 13-point home lead before stopping Panellinios 91-84 as Travis Hansen and Bostjan Nachbar combined for 42 points. Finally, two teams following big men to big victories were Maroussi Costa Coffee, by 71-58 over Khimki Moscow Region as Andreas Glyniadakis scored 21, and Turk Telekom, which stopped Zadar 89-82 behind 23 points from Michael Wright.
