Game Center: Last 16, Week 4
Benetton, Dynamo take first tickets to Turin!
The 2008-09 Eurocup got its first pair of Final Eight qualifiers as Week 4 of the Last 16 brought amazing drama levels again, with five games decided by four points or fewer.
Dynamo Moscow and Benetton Basket Treviso both improved to 4-0 and secured the first two spots at the Final Eight in Turin, Italy from April 2 to 5.
Dynamo
outlasted Maroussi Costa Coffee 76-80 behind a season-high 27 points from Bostjan Nachbar to stay on top of Group I. Dynamo can clinch first place with a victory next week at winless Panellinios. In the same group,
BC Khimki
beat Panellinios 101-94 as three players scored at least 21 points. Khimki hosts Maroussi next week in a game that could determine second place in the group.
Benetton
bested Turk Telekom 89-87 as six players scored in double figures for the hosts, while in Group J’s other fixture,
Zadar
edged Unics Kazan on the road 69-71. Zadar can crash the Final Eight if it wins next week, too. In Group K,
Hemofarm Stada
thrashed Crvena Zvezda 65-91 away, while
Pamesa Valencia
held off BC Azovmash Mariupol 68-66. Both are just one win away from the Final Eight. Chuck Eidson recorded 17 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists to lead
Lietuvos Rytas
over Artland Dragons 70-79 in Group L, where
iurbentia Bilbao
defeated Spirou Basket 82-78 as Damir Markota came off the bench to score 23. If L. Rytas beats Spirou next week, it would go to the Final Eight and take Bilbao with it.
