Eurocup qualifying round, Game 2 report: Dynamo Moscow 78-48 Amsterdam
Sergey Monya - Dynamo Moscow (Photo Dynamo Moscow)Dynamo Moscow routed Amsterdam 78-48 on Tuesday in the Russian capital to punch its ticket to the Eurocup Regular season. Amsterdam had a 1-point lead in the Eurocup Qualifying Round series after taking the opening leg 64-63 last week, but was no match for the former ULEB Cup winner on its own court. Sergey Bykov and Sergey Monya combined for 11 points in a 19-3 second-quarter run that helped Dynamo pull away for good en route to a 41-23 halftime lead. Dynamo stretched the lead to 31 in the second half as it coasted to victory in the game and series. Monya produced a double-double of 15 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks, leading Dynamo, which outrebounded Amsterdam 35-25. Bykov, Dmitry Domani and Alexey Savrasenko all also scored 15 for the winners. Alton Mason paced Amsterdam with 11 points, Robert Krabbendam netted 10 and Sergio de Randamie pulled down 10 rebounds in defeat.

Bykov put Dynamo on the scoreboard first before Jessey Voorn replied for Amsterdam with a triple. The best efforts of Domani and Savrasenko were not enough to pull the hosts away as Krabbendam stood tall for the visitors. Midway through the opening quarter, back-to-back Bykov baskets and a Domani triple staked Dynamo out to a 17-9 lead, but Mason’s three-pointer brought Amsterdam back to 20-17 after 10 minutes. Mason narrowed the deficit to 1 at the start of the second quarter, but that was as close as it would get. A Monya slam ignited a 13-0 charge in which he and Bykov scored 11 as Dynamo seized control of the game for good. Ramon Siljade hit a three to end a three-and-a-half minute Amsterdam drought, but that basket would prove to be a mere oasis as Amsterdam went another three-plus minutes without scoring while Iliya Syrovatko, Yury Vasiliev and Domani increased the lead further and after a Peter Mulligan free throw for the visitors, Savrasenko made it 41-23 at halftime.

Any slim hope Amsterdam sill had at the break was dashed when Domani and Bykov opened the second half with back-to-back triples and Monya later added a basket for a 49-23 Dynamo advantage. Krabbendam finally scored Amsterdam’s first points of the quarter after more than three minutes, but Dynamo’s sizable advantage had practically decided the outcome already. Dimeo Van Der Horst’s three-pointer made it 57-36 at the end of the third quarter, but Dynamo never let up until its lead peaked at 71-40 on a Savrasenko hook with four minutes remaining as the local fans celebrated their team’s return to the Eurocup.
