UNICS Kazan inks big man Maciej Lampe
UNICS Kazan bulked up its frontline ahead of the Last 16 by signing big man Maciej Lampe, who started the season with Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv. Lampe (210, 24) returns to Russia, where he played the last three seasons with BC Khimki Moscow Region. Lampe averaged 8 points and 3.8 rebounds in eight Euroleague games with Maccabi. Last year Lampe helped Khimki reach both the Eurocup final and Russian League finals, though he missed part of the regular season in both competitions due to injury. Lampe finished the season with 9.7 points and 4 rebounds per game over 20 minutes in the Eurocup and 11.5 points and 4.7 rebounds in 21 minutes per game in the Russian League. He was the MVP of the 2008 Russian Cup final after posting 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead Khimki to its first ever trophy. Lampe, who was born in Poland and raised in Sweden, is considered an excellent rebounder and extremely mobile player who can play both center and power forward. He made his Euroleague debut with Real Madrid in the 2002-03 season opener as a 17-year-old when he produced 5 points and 6 rebounds in 10 minutes against Partizan. Lampe began his career with Alvik Stockholm in Sweden and has since played for Madrid in Spain; Phoenix, New Orleans and Houston in the NBA, Khimki in Russia and Maccabi in Israel.
