DKV Joventut, coach Sito Alonso part ways
Sito AlonsoDKV Joventut will head into its most important Eurocup game of the season with a new head coach on the sidelines. The club announced on Wednesday that it had agreed with outgoing head coach Sito Alonso to terminate their deal. Alonso had been with the club for seven years, including the last year-and-a-half as the head coach. He was an assistant on Aito Garcia Reneses's staff when the club won the FIBA EuroCup in 2006 and then the ULEB Cup and Spanish King's Cup in 2008. Joventut comes off a 30-point loss in a Eurocup game at Aris BSA 2003 to fall to 3-2 in Last 16 Group I, but hosts a do-or-die contest against Alba Berlin next week and will advance to the Quarterfinals with a victory. Assistant coach Pep Claros takes over on an interim basis as management looks for a permanent replacement.
