Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia and Darjus Lavrinovic agreed to terms on a new contract that could keep the sides together through 2017. Lavrinovic (2.12 meters, 35 years old) first signed a two-year deal with Reggio Emilia last season. The new contract includes an option for the 2016-17 season. Lavrinovic missed the start of last season due to injury, but averaged 11.4 points in just 17.3 minutes over 25 Italian League games after his return; he scored in double figures in 10 of 15 playoff games to help push Reggio Emilia to Game 7 of the Italian League finals.
Lavrinovic was a 2005-06 All-Euroleague Second Team selection playing for Zalgiris Kaunas. He has spent a season each with Real Madrid, CSKA Moscow and Fenerbahce Ulker in addition to four Euroleague campaigns with Zalgiris. He also played for Alytus Alita in Lithuania, Budivelnik Kiev in Ukraine and Unics Kazan and Dynamo Moscow in Russia. Lavrinovic boasts a full trophy cupboard with domestic championships won in Lithuania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine as well as victories in both the Baltic and VTB United Leagues. He has also been a member of the Lithuanian national team. Lavrinovic helped Lithuania win the bronze medal at EuroBasket 2007 and reach the Olympic Games semifinals in Beijing 2008.
"We have extended the contract with an athlete who, when healthy, proved to be of a higher level," sports director Alessandro Frosini said. "We are pleased that Darjus strongly wanted to stay in Reggio Emilia. Lavrinovic will be important tactical weapon for Coach Menetti and a benchmark for the team."
