An arena that grows with basketball's popularity
Fernando Buesa ArenaA venue well known to European basketball fans, Fernando Buesa Arena in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, will see a continental trophy lifted on its court for the second time when it hosts the 2010 Eurocup Finals on April 17 and 18. Buesa Arena became home to Euroleague powerhouse Caja Laboral (then called Tau Ceramica) when it opened for business in 1991, after its conversion from a cattle market. Playing at Buesa Arena helped the club to become a European basketball giant, first in the Saporta Cup and then in the Euroleague. Buesa Arena was expanded to 9,500 seats by elevating its top tier – which weighs around 360 tons. The arena has a short but rich history hosting European basketball events, starting with the 1996 final of the Saporta Cup, which was Tau Ceramica's first and only continental trophy. Buesa Arena was also the scene of Games 3 and 4 of the 2001 Euroleague finals, in which Tau Ceramica lost a five-game series against Kinder Bologna. Buesa Arena has also hosted four Spanish League finals and three Spanish King's Cup tournaments. In addition to a capacity that reaches 10,400 seats - and another expansion to 15,000 already scheduled – Buesa Arena has a parking lot for 2,500 cars and 40 buses.
