A classic team in European club competitions meets a continental supernova in one semifinal on April 17 in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Alba Berlin has matched its high organizational standards - great structure, state-of-the-art arena, advanced marketing - with its best continental result since winning the Korac Cup title in 1995. Bizkaia Bilbao Basket returns to the Eurocup semifinals for the second consecutive season - its first two in Eurocup club competitions. Their roads to Vitoria-Gasteiz were quite similar, but both overcame obstacles to reach the semifinals. Bilbao and Alba had no troubles winning their regular season and Top 16 groups but had to battle hard to beat CEZ Nymburk and Hapoel Jerusalem, respectively, in the Quarterfinals. The addition of Axel Hervelle added depth and aggressiveness for Bilbao, which already featured Marko Banic, Alex Mumbru and Janis Blums. Alba relied all season on a returning core of players featuring Rashad Wright, Immanuel McElroy, Julius Jenkins and Blagota Sekulic.
