Eurocup Finals referees, commissioners announced
Some of European basketball’s most experienced officials will work the games of the 2010 Eurocup Finals in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain on April 17 and 18. The list of referees and commissioners for those games has been released by the organization and features a mix of experience and youth. Five of the eight referees selected have previously officiated at the Euroleague Final Four, the medal round at the Olympics or both. The full list of referees includes Matej Boltauzer (Slovenia), Marek Cmikiewicz (Poland), Srdan Dozai (Croatia), Carl Jungebrand (Finland), Luigi Lamonica (Italy), Robert Lottermoser (Germany), Fernando Rocha (Portugal) and Eddie Viator (France). The game commissioners will be Christophe Vauthier of France and Tiziano Zancanella of Italy. Viator is the only one to officiate a Eurocup title game, which he did in 2008. Jungebrand is the most experienced among the crew with half a dozen Euroleague Final Fours under his belt. Rocha refereed the 2009 Euroleague final in Berlin. Lamonica, like Jungebrand, has officiated both in the Olympic medal round and at the Euroleague Final Four. And Dozai took part in both the 2004 and 2008 Final Fours. All eight selected referees officiated during the recent Euroleague Quarterfinal Playoffs. By assigning newcomers such as Boltauzer, Cmikiewicz and Lottermoser to the Eurocup Finals officiating crew, Euroleague Basketball aims both to diversify the pool of referees with experience in Europe's top basketball event and reward professional competency. Alba Berlin of Germany, Bizkaia Bilbao Basket and Power Electronics Valencia, both of Spain, and Panellinios BC of Greece will compete at the Eurocup Finals.
