VEF Riga signs Patrick Sanders

Patrick SandersVEF Riga improved its roster for its upcoming Eurocup debut next season by inking forward Patrick Sanders to a one-year deal, the club announced Friday. Sanders (198, 24) arrives from EclipseJet MyGuide Amsterdam, where he averaged 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks in 20 Dutch League games last season. Sanders, an accomplished athlete and defender, has also played for Iowa in the D-League since finishing his college career at the University of California-Irvine (NCAA). He helped the Anteaters to reach the Big West Tournament in 2008. Sanders was chosen to the All-Big West first team that season. Just as his new team, Sanders is set to make his Eurocup debut next season. "I am pleased that we managed to agree to terms with Patrick Sanders," VEF Riga head coach and former Eurocup winner Rimas Kurtinaitis said. "He is the kind of player that we are looking for - strong and with a good shot."
