Lukoil Academic lands Banev, Bowman
Bulgarian power Lukoil Academic rebuilt its frontcourt Tuesday by signing center Tencho Banev and power forward Brandon Bowman. Banev (210, 30) returns to his boyhood club after a season in Cyprus with Apollon Limassol. The big man has played most of his career with Lukoil, having taken part in three Eurocup campaigns. He averaged 4.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in the Eurocup two seasons ago. Banev has also played for MBC Odessa in Ukraine, Beykozspor in Turkey and Iraklis Thessaloniki in Greece. Among his career highlights are winning four Bulgarian League championships and four Bulgarian Cups with Lukoil.
Bowman (204, 25) arrives from Turkish club Tofas, where he averaged 14.9 points and ranked sixth in the Turkish League with 7.3 rebounds per game last season. He has also played for Ignis Novara in Italy, Telekom Bonn in Germany and Bakersfield in the NBDL. Bowman had an excellent college basketball career at Georgetown University, finishing among the school’s top 10 all-time rebounders with 739 boards. He averaged 12.4 points and 5.8 rebounds in four years with the Hoyas.
