Benetton takes forward Peric on loan from Unicaja
Benetton Basket Bwin will have forward Hrvoje Peric on loan this season after agreeing to terms with his club, Unicaja. Peric (203, 24), who played for KK Zadar in recent seasons, signed a three-year deal with Unicaja this summer, but was not in the team’s plans for the first season. Last year he averaged 8 points and 3.8 rebounds for Zadar in six Eurocup games – his third season in the competition. He also posted 11.5 points and 5 rebounds for Zadar in the Adriatic League and 17.5 points and 7.4 rebounds in the Croatian League. The previous season, Peric played an instrumental role in helping Zadar reach the Eurocup Final Eight with averages of 13 points and 4.8 rebounds in 13 games. He grew up with Dubrovnik in his native Croatia and signed with KK Split as a 17-year old. Peric made his ULEB Cup debut with Split as a teenager in the 2003-04 season and also helped the club win the Croatian championship and the Croatian Cup during his time there. Peric joined Zadar in 2008 for two seasons before moving to Unicaja over the summer. Peric will wear No. 17 for Benetton.
"I am thrilled to have chosen Treviso for this first year of my career outside Croatia," Peric said. "For me and for the development of my career, it is a big challenge to play in the Italian League. I always watched the Series A and now to join a club with a great tradition like Benetton Basket for me is really important. I know the team is strong and ambitious, so for me there is nothing better than Treviso to begin this new phase of my career. Coach Repesa was my coach in the national team and having him as a coach and a fellow countryman as Nicevic will help me with the language and to acclimate to the new team as soon as possible."
