Lokomotiv finds new coach in Katsikaris
Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar landed a new head coach, none other than former 7DAYS EuroCup Coach of the Year Fotis Katsikaris, who inked a three-year with his new club on Monday. Katsikaris, age 49, arrives from UCAM Murcia, to which he led to the Spanish League playoffs for the first time in club history. He replaces Georgios Bartzokas, who reached an agreement to leave the club and join FC Barcelona Lassa after taking Lokomotiv to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four last season. A former player, Katsikaris started his coaching career with AEK Athens, first assisting Dusan Ivkovic and Dragan Sakota, and then taking the head coach spot in 2003. He has also coached Dynamo St. Petersburg of Russia, Aris Thessaloniki of Greece, as well as Valencia Basket and Bilbao Basket of Spain. He has also coached the Greek national team and was briefly appointed as the Russian national team head coach, but he resigned before coaching the team in any tournaments. He helped AEK reach the Greek League finals and the Top 16 in the 2004-05 season. Katsikaris also led Bilbao to the Spanish League finals in 2011, the EuroLeague playoffs in 2012 and the EuroCup final in 2013. He earned EuroCup Coach of the Year honors in the 2012-13 season.
