RETAbet Bilbao Basket bolstered its frontcourt by inking big man Jameel McKay to a one-year deal on Friday. McKay (2.06 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Phoenix Fuel Masters of the Philippines, where he averaged 23.8 points, 17.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 11 games last season. He started the 2016-17 season with Perth Wildcats, with whom he averaged 7.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 33 Australian League games to help his team win the title. Perth was the first stop in his professional career after playing college basketball at Iowa State University.
"We have been following McKay since the summer. He is a mobile big man, not tall but with amazing wingspan, 222 centimeters," Bilbao sports director Raul Lopez said. "We highlight his intensity on the court, he leaves it all on the court. He is a hard-nosed defender, a huge offensive rebounder and great shot blocker. He runs the floor like a shooting guard and his activity level is contagious."
