Week 6 MVP: Dontaye Draper, Cedevita
Dontaye Draper - Cedevita Zagreb (photo kkcedevita.hr)A brilliant performance with his team’s season on the line from Cedevita playmaker Dontaye Draper not only lifted his team to victory and the Last 16, but landed him Eurocup Week 6 MVP honors and cemented his arrival as one of the top young guards in Europe. Draper poured in 32 points on 9-of-14 two-point and 3-of-6 three-point shooting in addition to 5 rebounds, 7 assists and just 1 turnover as Cedevita turned away BC Azovmash 88-84. His 36 performance index rating marked the fifth game in a row that Draper improved that stat and allowed Draper to finish the regular season among the league leaders in index, scoring, assists and steals. Draper’s index was actually the second best among the final regular season games, however the top individual performer, Primoz Brezec of Krasnye Krylia, was not eligible as his team lost its Week 6 game against Alba Berlin. Nevertheless Brezec shined with 23 points, 17 rebounds and 3 assists for a 40 index. Third on the list of top Week 6 performers was GasTerra Flames guard Matt Bauscher after he tallied 18 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for a 34 index in a home loss against Panellinios. Draper’s teammate and the beneficiary of a number of his assists, big man Corsley Edwards, and Besiktas ColaTurka power forward Cevher Ozer round out the list of top showings with 32 indexes. Edwards scored 22 points and grabbed 9 boards for Cedevita. Ozer amassed 27 points and 7 boards in a 91-86 win over BG Goettingen.

Individual highs: Primoz Brezec of Krasnye Krylia, 17 rebounds

Draper’s 32-point scoring outburst was the best of any player in Week 6. He raised his scoring averaged to 17.8 points per game, placing him sixth in the regular season. Brezec bids farewell to the competition as its No. 1 scorer with 20.8 points per game. Brezec leaves as the No. 2 rebounder after his haul of 17 boards in the regular season finale - the most of any player – lifted him to 9.7 per game. PAOK center Lazaros Papadopoulos finished as the top rebounder with 12.2 per game. Goettingen point guard Trent Meacham was the Week 6 leader with 11 assists. He raised his average to 6.2 per game, which trailed only Gal Mekel’s 6.3 for Hapoel Gilboa/Galil. Two players – Vladimir Veremeenko of Unics Kazan and Kristaps Janicenoks of VEF Riga – swiped 6 steals in Week 6, the most in the Eurocup. Janicenoks’s 2.5 steals per game were tied for third-most in the competition. Draper finished as the regular season’s steals leader with 2.8 per game. Galatasaray Café Crown forward Rado Rancik and Le Mans big man Thierry Rupert both rejected 3 shots in Week 6. Rupert ranked fifth in the Eurocup with 1.3 per game. Jerusalem forward Brian Randle’s 2.3 blocks per game were the most in the regular season. Six players tallied double-doubles in the final game of the regular season: Brezec, Papadopoulos (14 points, 10 rebounds), Joe Krabbenhoft (11 points, 14 rebounds) of Panellinios, Boris Davovic (16 points, 10 rebounds) of Hemofarm Stada, Zach Morley of Budivelnik (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Denis Marconato (12 points, 10 rebounds) of Bennet Cantu.
