ASVEL Villeurbanne dismissed J.D. Jackson as head coach on Monday and promoted assistant T.J. Parker in his place. Jackson spent parts of four seasons with ASVEL, which he first joined in December 2014 and later guided to the 2016 French League crown. The decision to go in a different direction came after an 84-52 loss at the hands of Chalon in French League on Saturday, which dropped ASVEL to eighth place with an 8-8 record. Jackson also had ASVEL tied for second in Group H of the 7DAYS EuroCup with a 1-1 record after winning regular season Group D at 7-3.
Parker, 33, has spent four and a half seasons as an assistant coach with the team, which his older brother and star guard Tony Parker is the president of. T.J. was a point guard for Racing Paris, SLUC Nancy and ASVEL among others before injuries forced him to retire at age 26. He will make his head coaching debut in the EuroCup on Wednesday against fellow French side Limoges CSP.
