ALBA Berlin inks swingman Giedraitis to three-year deal

After losing ace shooter Marius Grigonis to Lithuanian League champion Zalgiris Kaunas, ALBA Berlin went to that same country to find a replacement and signed Rokas Giedraitis from Rytas Vilnius for three seasons. Giedraitis (1.98 meters, 25 years old) averaged 12.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals in 16 games as Ryats's sixth man last season. He led the team in three-pointers made (27) and was second in both scoring and steals. Giedraitis was the MVP for Round 2 of the regular season after scoring a career-high 28 points on 5-of-8 three-point shooting in a road win at Partizan NIS Belgrade. He first signed with Rytas in the summer of 2015 and split that season between that club and Siauliai, where he had also played from 2013 through 2015. Giedraitis started his career with lower division Siauliu Saule-Aukstabalis and played for two other lower division teams in Lithuania - ABRO-Universitetas Siauliai and Mazeikiai - before joining Siauliai. He won the Lithuanian Cup with Rytas in 2016 and has played for his country's national teams at the junior and senior levels; Giedraitis won gold medals with Lithuania at the Under-19 World Championship in 2011 and the U20 European Championship in 2012.

"Rokas is a strong player, a good shooter and he can attack the basket with his athleticism," ALBA Sports Director Himar Ojeda said. "He is fast and moves very well, even without the ball, which fits the way we play. We are very happy and want to help him reach the next level of his development. At the same time, he will help lift us as a team to get to the next level."
