Asvel Basket fortified its frontcourt with the signing of power forward Dimitrios Charitopoulos for the remainder of the season. Charitopoulos (2.05 meters, 29 years old) arrives from Marrousi in his native Greece, where averaged 12.1 points and 7.6 blocks in 14 Greek League games this season. He also has experience in the Eurocup after helping his boyhood club Aris Thessaloniki reach the competition’s title game in 2006. He played in a total of 33 Eurocup games with Aris and PAOK between 2004 and 2007. Charitopoulos also won the 2003 FIBA Eurocup Champions Cup and the 2004 Greek Cup with Aris. He has also played for Trikalla and Panionios in Greece. Asvel will be his first team outside of Greece. Charitopoulos was a member of the Greek junior national teams and won the gold medal at the Under-20 European championships in 2002. Charitopoulos joined Asvel last week and debuted with 4 points in 12 minutes in a 70-82 win at SLUC Nancy.
