Ukrainian Cup final: February 15, 2009
Rolandas Jarutis - AzovmashAzovmash Mariupol lifted the Ukrainian Cup for the second season in a row thanks to Rolandas Jarutis’s game-winning three-pointer in the final seconds. Azovmash edged rival BC Kyic 74-75 at the end of the thriller that left all the fans in the Ukrainian capital on the edge of their seats for the full 40 minutes. Khalid El-Amin, who was named as the MVP of the Ukrainian Cup final four, led the winners with 23 points and 4 assists and Dijon Thompson had 20 points. Jarutis dished 5 assists in addition to his 6 points – which came on 2 triples in the final minute. Kenan Bajramovic led Kyiv with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Artur Drozdov added 14 points and Clay Tucker scored 13. Azovmash led 31-40 at halftime, but Kyiv was within 53-57 at the start of the fourth quarter and Tucker helped the hosts tie it at 62-62 midway through the final period and it was knotted at 69-69 with a minute to play. Jarutis’s first triple made it 70-72, but free throws by Drozdov and then Tucker put Kyiv in control. But El-Amin got the ball to Jarutis for the game- and Cup-winning triple with 3 seconds remaining to set off the Azovmash celebrations.
