REAL MADRID signs Jorge Garbajosa
Jorge Garbajosa - BC Khimki One of the most experienced power forwards in European basketball will make his Euroleague return this season after the news that Jorge Garbajosa has inked a two-year deal with Real Madrid. Garbajosa (205, 31) arrives from BC Khimki Moscow region, where he averaged 9.2 points and 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 13 Eurocup games last season. He helped Khimki reach the Eurocup and the Russian League finals. Garbajosa had joined Khimki from Toronto of the NBA, where he was limited to just seven games during the 2007-08 campaign before undergoing season-ending surgery. He posted solid numbers - 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds - in 67 games with Toronto in the 2006-07 season. Garbajosa had a stellar Euroleague career, helping Benetton Treviso reach the title game in 2003, when he was an All-Euroleague first team selection. In his four years with Benetton, Garbajosa also won back-to-back Italian League titles in 2002 and 2003 and lifted the Italian Cup trophy in 2004. Garbajosa has also played for Tau Ceramica and Unicaja in his native Spain. He won the 1996 Saporta Cup and the 1999 Spanish King's Cup with Tau. Garbajosa took Unicaja to the highest level, leading the team to its only domestic titles so far, the 2005 Spanish King's Cup and the 2006 Spanish League crown, earning finals MVP in both events. Garbajosa is also a regular member of the Spanish national team and won the gold medal at the 2006 World Championships and three EuroBasket medals - bronze in 2001 and silvers in 2003 and 2007. He also has a silver medal from the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Despite not playing a Euroleague game since 2006, Garbajosa ranks sixth in the Euroleague's all-time steals charts (193) and is eighth in fouls drawn (535).
