LIETUVOS RYTAS keeps Babrauskas
Steponas Babrauskas - Lietuvos RytasReigning Lithuanian League champion Lietuvos Rytas reached an agreement with team captain Steponas Babrauskas to extend his contract until the end of the 2010-11 season. Babrauskas (197, 24) returned to L. Rytas in summer 2008 and has helped the team to reach its biggest success. In 2008-09, Babrauskas helped L. Rytas to win four domestic titles - the Lithuanian League, the Lithuanian Cup, the Baltic League and the Baltic President's Cup. Above all, Babrauskas played a critical role to make L. Rytas win the Eurocup that season, downing Khimki in the final in come-from-behind fashion. Last season, Babrauskas helped L. Rytas to win the Lithuanian League and the Lithuanian Cup titles. Babrauskas has also played for Legea Scafati and Cimberio Varese in Italy, ASK Riga in Latvia, Leuven in Belgium, as well as for L. Rytas and Sakalai in his native Lithuania. He helped ASK to win the Latvian League title in 2007. "It is hard to imagine Lietuvos Rytas without Babrauskas. He is the best team captain the club ever had," L. Rytas president Jonas Vainauskas said. "Our fans, the player himself and the team wanted the deal to be done."
