REGAL FCB extends Basile
Gianluca Basile - Regal FC BarcelonaReigning Euroleague champion Regal FC Barcelona reached a new agreement with veteran bomber Gianluca Basile to extend his contract until the end of the 2010-11 season, the club announced Thursday. Basile (192, 35) averaged 4.2 points in 17 Euroleague games last season, helping Barcelona to lift the trophy. In his five seasons with Barcelona, Basile also helped the club to win the Spanish League title in 2009 and lift the Spanish King's Cup trophies in 2007 and 2010. He also reached the Euroleague Final Four in 2006 and 2009. Basile has also played for Reggio Emilia and Fortitudo Bologna in his native Italy. He helped Fortitudo to make it to the Euroleague final in 2004. Basile was also a regular member of the Italian national team until 2007. He helped Italy to win EuroBasket 1999, reach the Olympic Games final in 2004 and get a bronze medal at EuroBasket 2003. A fan favourite player in Barcelona due to his outstanding defense, fighting spirit and trademark three-pointers from way downtown - 'tiro ignorante' -, Basile ties with J.R. Holden for most games played in Euroleague history - 199. Basile ranks first in three-pointers made (381), third in steals (259) and eighth in scoring (1,983 points) and assists (424).
