Polish League finals, Game 5: May 31, 2007
Prokom Trefl champ Polish League 2006-07, photo: plk.plProkom Trefl aced its fourth straight Polish League title in fine fashion on Thursday by shutting down Turow 68-56 at home in Sopot to win their best-of-seven final series by 4-1. Game 5 was no easier than the previous victories by Prokom, two of which came by 3 points or fewer. This time, the champs nursed small leads into the final quarter, when their dominance on the boards proved too much for Turow to overcome. Donatas Slanina was the big gun on offense for Prokom, pouring in 24 points, including 4 of 9 three-point shots. He was named MVP of the finals. Chrisitian Dalmau was Prokom's other double-digit scorer, with 18 points, but the real story was on defense and the backboards, where the hosts pulled 40 rebounds to just 25 for Turow. Michael Andersen had 8 of those, Jasmin Hukic 7 and Huseyin Besok 6. Dalmau had 5 of Prokom's 14 steals. For Turow, only Thomas Kelati with 17 points and Lance Williams with 10 could do much damage. Prokom led 14-12 after a quarter, 28-25 at the half and 48-42 after 30 minutes, but controlled the scoreboard the rest of the way to the highest lead of the night and a new trophy to raise! MORE

2006-07 POLISH LEAGUE PREVIEW
A dynasty has been established, as Prokom Trefl Sopot won its third consecutive Polish League title and set its basis for a bright future. Prokom is back with its best roster ever, as it landed marquee free agents such Huseyin Besok, Donatas Slanina, Justin Hamilton or Jasmin Hukic while keeping Christian Dalmau, Filip Dylewicz, Adam Wojcik or Michael Andersen. With a solid future plan and talent at each spot, Prokom is set to become the team to beat in Poland for many years. WTK Anwil Wloclawek made it to the final last season and is ready to compete with players like Andrzej Pluta, Brandon Kurtz, Dusan Bocevski, Seid Hajric or Gatis Jahovics. Slask Wroclaw landed head coach Andrej Urlep to start a new project with rising star Kamil Chanas, Tim Kisner, Aleksandar Dimitrovski or Oliver Stevic. Energa Czarni Slupsk has landed Darrell Tucker while keeping a core of players featuring Omar Bartlett, Miah Davis, Alex Dunn or Alexander Kudriavtsev. Meanwhile, Polpak Swiecie hopes to return to the semifinals with players like Marcin Sroka, Harding Nana, Robert Skibniewski or Gert Dorbek. BOT KS Turow Zgorzelec is set to become the biggest surprise of the season due to the arrival of Andres Rodriguez, Dragisa Drobnjak, Vlado Pasalic or Robert Witka. Mike Ansley will lead Stal Ostrow at age 39. A round-robin regular season will determine which eight teams make it to the playoffs. Best-of-five quarterfinals and semifinals will follow, as well as a best-of-seven title series.
