Austrian League Finals, Game 5: May 30, 2010
Allianz Swans Gmunden won the Austrian League championship on Sunday after beating BSC Raiffeisen Furstenfeld 68-76 on the road in the fifth and final game of the best-of-five series. Gmunden won its fourth title and first since 2007 thanks to a Deteri Mayes-led 0-10 fourth quarter run. After Desmond Penigar put the hosts up 57-55 with 6:27 remaining, Mayes responded with a triple and a layup and Florian Schoninger drilled a three as Furstenfeld was held scoreless for nearly three-and-a-half minutes and Gmunden moved closer to another title. Mayes finished with 30 points and 8 rebounds for Swans, while Ian Boylan had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Mathias Mayer posted 9 points and 10 rebounds. Jae Youngblood paced Furstenfeld with 20 points and Penigar and Nate Linhart added 17 apiece.

Austrian League, Season 2009-10
The Austrian League is arguably one of the most balanced and unpredictable competitions in European basketball. As many as six teams have almost equal chances to lift the league trophy at the end of the season. WBC Raiffeisen Wels looks to defend its title, won against all odds last season with Ricky Moore, Jason Conley, Bruce Fields and Matthew Nelson as its main stars. BSC Raiffeisen Furstenfeld Panthers kept Shawn Ray and added Jay Youngblood and Tim Burnette, who already know the competition well. Allianz Swans Gmunden, until recently the dominant force in Austrian hoops, features veteran scorer Deteri Mayes as its franchise player, with Dan Oppland, Peter Hutter and Ian Boylan ready to help him out. Kapfenberg Bulls kept a core of players including Kevin Nelson, Branimir Josipovic and Damir Zeleznik, but also added Mike Schachtner. Oberwart Gunners found a new scorer in Anthony Paez and kept center Jason Johnson. Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions relies on Fabricio Vay, Terrence Roderick and Djordje Drenovac as it targets an even better season. As last season proved, anything can happen in the Austrian League, a competition that will likely go to the wire.
