Czech League, Game 23: January 16, 2009
CEZ Basketball Nymburk and Mlekarna Miltra Novy Jicin tie atop the Czech League standings each with a 20-3 record. BK Prostejov is right behind at 19-4. Nymburk broke its three-game losing streak by overwhelming BK Breda & Weinstein Opava 54-107 on the road on Saturday. Phil Ricci led 7 Nymburk players in double digits with 16 points. Petr Benda added 15, Ladislav Sokolovsky had 14. Mike Lenzly got 13, Ron Lewis 12 while Arthur Lee and Pavel Pumprla each contributed 11 in an easy road win for Nymburk, that led 11-28 after 10 minutes and boosted its margin to 23-58 at halftime, enough to control the game from then on. In a big showdown atop the standings, Novy Jicin edged Prostejov 104-97 at home also on Saturday. Corey Muirhead led the winners with 26 points. Robert Sarovic added 19 while Dusan Pandula had 18 for Novy Jicin. Andrius Slezas had 25 points for Prostejov while Benad Veikalas added 19. Novy Jicin led 56-46 at halftime and kept a 72-66 edge after 30 minutes. The hosts managed to seal the outcome minutes before the final buzzer. BK Decin edged BC Kolin 94-87 with 24 points from William Hatcher. In other games, NH Ostrava edged USK Praha 89-81, Karma Podebrady beat Basketball Brno 80-78 while Synthesia Pardubice thrashed end-of-the-table Sokol Vysehrad 118-53.
