The win made it 21 playoff victories in a row for Montepaschi. Terrell McIntyre was named the finals MVP after leading Siena with 28 points on 6-of-9 three-point shooting. Romain Sato added 16 points for the winners, Ksistof Lavrinovic scored 15 and Shaun Stonerook 11. Jonas Maciulis paced Armani Jeans with 13 points, Stefano Mancinelli and Mason Rocca added 12 apiece and Chris Monroe 10. McIntyre hit from beyond the arc to give the visitors an early 11-20 advantage. Mike Hall made a layup to cut the gap to 19-22, but Henry Domercant answered as Siena raced to a 19-29 lead early in the second quarter. Maciulis finished a perfect fastbreak to get Milano within 44-45 only to see Stonerook score on the offensive glass and give Montepaschi a 44-47 edge at halftime. Mancinelli made it 50-51 early in the third, but McIntyre heated up and scored 10 points in the quarters to put his side in front 55-67. A put back from Ben Eze made it 57-71 for the guests at the end of the third quarter and Siena remained in control the rest of the way, extending the difference to 60-83 at the midway point of the period and starting the celebrations early. Italian League, Season 2009-10
The 2009-10 Italian League starts with Montepaschi Siena as the main candidate to lift yet another trophy. Montepaschi has dominated the Italian League in the last years, winning the last three titles with an impressive 119-10 record since Simone Pianigiani was promoted to the head coach spot in the summer of 2006. Montepaschi kept All-Euroleague point guard Terrell McIntyre, Romain Sato, Shaun Stonerook and Henry Domercant, but also signed David Hawkins and Nikos Zisis to become even better. Lottomatica Roma, Armani Jeans Milano and Benetton Basket are the main candidates to dethrone Montepaschi. Benetton landed Davor Kus, Donatas Motejiunas and Jasmin Hukic to play alongside C.J. Wallace, Sandro Nicevic and Gary Neal. AJ Milano invested in players like Jonas Maciulis, Marius Petravicius, Morris Finley and Stefano Mancinelli. Meanwhile, Lottomatica kept Ibby Jaaber and Andre Hutson, but brought in Ricky Minard and Kennedy Winston. Angelico Biella, featuring Vanja Plisnic, Fred Jones and Joe Smith, or Banca Tercas Teramo, with Giuseppe Poeta and Ryan Hoover, will also fight to return to the playoffs. Cimberio Varese is back in action ready to fight led by Jobey Thomas, Ronald Slay and Jack Galanda. NGC Medical Cantu, Scavolini Spar Pesaro and Virtus Forza Bologna are other teams to watch in what promises to be an exciting Italian League season.
