The star: Rudy Fernandez
Rudy Fernandez Family and basketball have always gone together for DKV Joventut superstar Rudy Fernandez. Both his parents had played for Joventut and family legend has it that Fernandez started to walk while chasing a basketball thrown by his older sister, Marta, herself an international star. Fernandez joined Joventut's youth program in Badalona early, and his full-time promotion to the club’s first team came in 2003-04. Within months, the teenager was named MVP of the Spanish King's Cup in a losing effort. Soon, the call came from the Spanish national team, which made Fernandez its youngest player at the Athens Olympics. Two summers later, Fernandez and Spain were crowned world champions together. Last season, while winning the Euroleague Rising Star award, Fernandez helped Joventut reach the Top 16 and the Spanish League semifinals. This season, he has been nothing short of unstoppable, winning the Spanish King’s Cup as that event’s first two-time MVP and ranking among the ULEB Cup's top five players in five statistical categories on a per-minute basis. At the Final Eight in Turin, the sky might be the only limit for this budding superstar of world basketball.
