Jerusalem gets its man in Slaughter
Coach Dan Shamir and Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem found the inside player they've been looking for all summer. Marcus Slaughter (206, 22) agreed to terms with the Israeli Cup winners on Thursday and is expected to land in Israel over the weekend. The contract is for one season with a team option for a second year. Hapoel will be Slaughter's second stop in Europe after he played for Turkish side Karsiyaka last season. He averaged a season double-double with 13.3 points and 10.2 rebounds – ranking him third in the Turkish league. Before that he spent three years with San Diego State of the NCAA's Mountain West Conference. There too he averaged a season double-double in his junior year, reaching 16.5 points and 11.0 rebounds to lead his school to the conference title.
"I'm very happy that despite the long wait we were able to land Marcus who was among the first candidates for this position," Hapoel head coach Dan Shamir said. "Of course adjusting to a team that's already playing is a process that takes time, and I really hope he will fit in quickly and help us reach our goals."
