Khimki signs Jorge Garbajosa
One of the best power forwards in European basketball will make his Eurocup debut this season after the news that Jorge Garbajosa has inked a two-year deal with Russian powerhouse BC Khimki. Garbajosa (205, 30) arrives from Toronto of the NBA, where he was limited to just seven games last year before undergoing season-ending surgery. He posted big numbers - 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds - in 67 games with Toronto in the 2005-06 season. Garbajosa had a stellar Euroleague career, helping Benetton Treviso reach the title game in 2003, when he was an All-Euroleague first team selection. In his four years with Benetton, Garbajosa also won back-to-back Italian League titles in 2002 and 2003 and lifted the Italian Cup trophy in 2004. Garbajosa has also played for Tau Ceramica and Unicaja in his native Spain. He won the 1996 Saporta Cup and the 1999 Spanish King's Cup with Tau. Garbajosa took Unicaja to the highest level, leading the team to win its only domestic titles so far, the 2005 Spanish King's Cup and the 2006 Spanish League, earning finals MVP in both events. Garbajosa is also a regular member of the Spanish national team and won the gold medal at the 2006 World Championships. He has also won three EuroBasket medals - bronze in 2001 and silvers in 2003 and 2007 - with the Spanish national team. He is set to compete with Spain at the Beijing Olympics next month. At Khimki Garbajosa will join former Toronto teammate Carlos Delfino, who signed a three-year deal with the club last week.
