ASK Riga adds Brewer, Helmanis, Marsh & Aleksic

ASK Riga injected some fresh blood into the squad for the coming season by announcing four signings on Tuesday. The club has brought in all-time Eurocup scoring runner-up Corey Brewer and forwards Uvis Helmanis, Ricardo Marsh and Milutin Aleksic. Brewer (188, 33) arrives from KK Zadar, where he averaged 14.8 points and 3.6 assists in 14 ULEB Cup games, helping his club reach the competition’s Last 16. He ranks second all-time in the Eurocup in scoring (845) and three-pointers made (119), third in games played (60), fifth in steals (90) and seventh in assists (133). Brewer has previously played for Biella and Virtus Bologna in Italy, Estudiantes and Caja San Fernando in Spain, Aris Thessaloniki in Greece and Spirou Charleroi in Belgium. Brewer took part in the 2006 ULEB Cup Final with Aris. Helmanis (204, 36) comes from domestic rival Vetspils, where he has spent the past two seasons. Helmanis averaged 8.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in 12 ULEB Cup games last season. With 59 three-pointers made, Helmanis is among the top 25 in that category in competition history. He began his career with Bonus Riga and also played for Adazhi Riga, Metropole Talsi and Broceni Riga in his native Latvia and later played for Bobry Bytom, Stal Ostrow and Slask Wroclaw in Poland as well as Leverkusen and GHP Bamberg in Germany, making in 20 Euroleague appearances with the latter. Marsh (203, 26) played in Turkey for Antalya Buyuksehir Belediye last season, recording 18.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He led the Israeli League in scoring the previous season with 20.9 points per game with Elitzur Ashkelon. Marsh has also played for Turk Telekom Ankara in Turkey. The Serbian-born Aleksic (202, 26) has spent parts of the past four seasons in Cyprus and averaged 12.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists with Proteas EKA AEL Limassol last year. He has also played for Red Star Belgrade and Hemofarm in Serbia, Buducnost Podgorica in Montenegro and Spirou Charleroi in Belgium. He played in five ULEB Cup games for Hemofarm in 2004.
