Fribourg loses Esterkamp, inks Zimnickas
Swiss champion Benetton Fribourg Olympic will be without one of its top players for its Eurocup campaign after Dave Esterkamp underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee Wednesday. The surgery was deemed a success, nevertheless he will miss the next six-to-nine months. Esterkamp scored more points and grabbed more rebounds in the ULEB Cup last season than any other Fribourg player.

In his place, the club has signed forward Alex Zimnickas for the season. Zimnickas (203, 25) arrives from Mardyke UCC Demons Cork of the Irish League, where he averaged 13.1 points and 7.4 rebounds in 20 games last season. Before that he spent four seasons playing college basketball for the University of Hartford. A native of Lithuania, Zimnickas was raised in Canada and was a high school star in Toronto.
