Maroussi, coach Bartzokas part ways
Georgios Bartzokas - Maroussi BCMaroussi BC made a shocking announcement on Wednesday, barely two weeks before the Euroleague Qualifying Rounds, as Giorgios Bartzokas stepped down as the team's head coach. As such, Maroussi has started to look for a new coach that will lead the team in the upcoming Qualifying Rounds. Bartzokas, age 45, arrived to Maroussi last summer and led the team to big success. Maroussi went all the way from the Euroleague Qualifying Rounds to the Top 16 and was one win away from making it to the playoffs, downing teams like Panathinaikos or Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv in the process. Bartzokas also led Maroussi to finish third in the Greek League. Due to all these achievements, Bartzokas was chosen as the 2009-10 coach of the year in Greece. “I hope that my decision will push people who are involved in this club to put out their best effort and help the team," Bartzokas said.
