Reds erupt for records in Playoffs win
Rasho Nesterovic - OlympiacosThe Game 1 Quarterfinal Playoffs matchup between Olympiacos and Montepaschi Siena ended in an impressive 89-41 blowout win for the Reds and left quite a few records shattered along the way. The hosts started the game with 19 unanswered points and set records for fewest point allowed in a half (9) and fewest through three quarters (22). Head coach Dusan Ivkovic's men also set a Playoffs record with 55 rebounds and the largest Playoffs margin of victory at 48. The tight defense by the hosts resulted in 11 steals and 7 blocks but, more importantly, limited Siena to 9-of-46 two-point shooting, a paltry 19.5% for the game that actually was just 4% at the half, which was reached at 47-9.

The point total by the visitors in the first two quarters was the lowest in Euroleague history, breaking Asvel Baskets’s mark of 14 at the half, going all the way back to 2003 in a game against Benetton Treviso. Also, with no two-point shots made in the opening quarter, which closed at 24-4, Olympiacos held Montepaschi to the second-fewest points in Playoffs history for a in the opening period. Olympiacos’s dominance at the Peace and Friendship Stadium produced the lowest-scoring game in the competition since CSKA trounced KRKA Novo Mesto 89-35 in 2003. But, most importantly, it gave the Reds their fifth consecutive opening playoff win at home, also a record.

Still, one milestone was left unattained: in Theodoros Papaloukas's record 212th Euroleague game, the Olympiacos playmaker recorded just 3 assists, which still leaves him 4 shy of the 900 mark, a number never before reached before by any player in the competition.
