The Club
A former competition champion gets back to the Eurocup after Dynamo Moscow made it through the Qualifying Round. Dynamo was created in 1923 and its name means 'power in motion'. The club won the USSR Championships in 1937 and 1948, but years of domestic obscurity followed, although it reached and lost the 1968 European Cup Winners' Cup final against Slavia Prague. Dynamo found new success in the Saporta Cup, reaching the semifinals in 1991 and 1996. One year after that, Dynamo disappeared due to financial reasons despite making its Euroleague debut that season. It wasn't until 2001 that Dynamo reappeared and it reached the Russian League semifinals in 2004. Its ULEB Cup debut came in the 2004-05 season when the team marched to the eighthfinals before getting upset by Hemofarm. Dynamo landed Mire Chatman, Ruben Douglas and Lazaros Papadopoulos as it managed to win the ULEB Cup title in 2006, downing Aris BSA 60-73 in the final. Dynamo did well in the 2007 Euroleague, winning its regular season group and surviving the Top 16 before losing to eventual champion Panathinaikos in the playoffs. The team then reached the Eurocup Final Eight in each of the last two seasons, losing against Akasvayu in the 2008 semifinals and to Hemofarm in the 2009 quarterfinals. With its impressive experience in Europe's second competition, Dynamo is as ambitious as ever.
