The Club
A signature team in Europe's second competition - and its original champion – Valencia Basket heads into the 2009-10 Qualifying Round ready to come out and challenge for the title. Founded in 1986, Valencia reached the Spanish League in 1988, but did not stick for good until 1996. Two years later the team claimed its first success, the Spanish King's Cup title. Soon Pamesa Valencia became a regular in the domestic playoffs, though for four years it could not break into the semifinals. In Europe, Pamesa reached the Saporta Cup final twice, losing in 1999 to Benetton and in 2002 to Montepaschi. It all changed for Pamesa in the 2002-03 season. First came the ULEB Cup title as Pamesa swept Krka Novo Mesto in the finals. Pamesa then reached the Spanish League finals, losing against FC Barcelona. Momentum and excitement marked the 2003-04 season when Pamesa advanced to the Euroleague Top 16 and came within one win of reaching the Final Four. The club returned to the ULEB Cup in 2004-05 and reached the semifinals, losing to Lietuvos Rytas on point differential. A Spanish King's Cup final in 2006, three consecutive playoff appearances and back-to-back trips to the Eurocup Final Eight in 2007 and 2008 cemented its status as a strong contender. The 2009-10 season may mark a turning point for Valencia Basket, a team that has the experience, talent and confidence to beat anyone, anywhere.
