The Club
Already known for its diehard fans, Bamberg is backed by four decades' worth of basketball tradition as it takes up another in a series of new challenges, the Eurocup Qualifying Round. Bamberg first got attention when it won a German Cup title in 1992 and qualified for European competitions several times, but real competitiveness came when Dirk Bauermann arrived as the head coach of an ambitious project. Bamberg soon became an annual contender in its domestic competition, losing the 2003 and 2004 German League finals. All its good work paid off when Bamberg downed Frankfurt Skyliners in a thrilling five-game title series to lift the 2005 German League trophy. In 2005-06, the already called Brose Baskets became the first German team to reach the Euroleague Top 16. In 2007, Brose returned to the German League finals and downed Artland Dragons to conquer its second title, establishing itself as more than a one-year sensation. Brose went back to the Euroleague in 2008 but could not make it to the Top 16 and an early exit in the German League playoffs. Last season, Brose reached the German League semifinals, losing against EWE Baskets Oldenburg. The club is now ready for a new challenge, as it tries to battle its way from the First Qualifying Round all the way to the Eurocup regular season.
