The Club
After years of being looked at as a rising power, Hemofarm Stada comes off its best Eurocup season - reaching the semifinals for the third time since 2005 - and is ready to reach even higher in 2009-10. Founded in 1946, Hemofarm became the main sponsor in 1992 and soon the team was on the road to national success. In 1998, Hemofarm won the second division and was promoted to what was then the Yugoslavian League. It only took the team a couple of seasons to lock up a spot in the Korac Cup. Hemofarm made it all the way to the Korac Cup finals in 2001 before losing against Unicaja of Spain. Domestic success followed with semifinal appearances in 2001 and 2002. Even when the expectations were high, Hemofarm managed to beat them by making the league finals in 2003, when it also reached the national cup final. Hemofarm won its first-ever title in the 2004-05 season, the Adriatic League. The team won the regular season and knocked off Bosna, Reflex and Partizan in the final eight to lift the trophy. Hemofarm also reached the ULEB Cup semifinals and even won the first leg by 23 points. Surprisingly enough, Makedonikos managed to overcome the deficit and reach the title game. The team stayed competitive in the 2005-06 season and returned to the ULEB Cup semifinals, only to get knocked out on a last-second shot against Aris. Hemofarm also made it to the Adriatic League semifinals and the Serbia and Montenegro Cup final. In 2006-07, Hemofarm could not overcome Unics Kazan in the ULEB Cup eighthfinals, but made it both to the Adriatic and Serbian League semifinals. The club reached three finals in 2007-08 - the Adriatic League, Serbian Cup and Serbian League - losing them all against Partizan Igokea. Hemofarm returned to the ULEB Cup elimination rounds and even though it downed Buducnost, Akasvayu Girona stood in its way to the Final Eight. Led by young talents Stefan Markovic, Boban Marjanovic and 2008-09 Eurocup Rising Star award winner Milan Macvan, Hemofarm advanced to the Final Eight and upset Dynamo Moscow to make it to the Quarterfinals, losing against soon-to-be champ Lietuvos Rytas in the semifinals. With its main players back in the squad, Hemofarm is no longer an underdog, but one of the teams to beat in the Eurocup.
