HISTORY - Welcome to Eurocup

In just five seasons, the ULEB Cup has captured the imagination of players and fans throughout Europe and beyond, almost as though it had been producing its thrillers forever. Europe's second-highest competition behind only the Euroleague has been the source of great motivation to all who have been a part of it. The list of participating clubs and players has included former Euroleague champions as well as reigning World, Olympic and European champion players. And for those who aspire to be among the next generation of great clubs and players, the ULEB Cup has become the perfect stage on which to prove themselves. The 2007-08 season saw 54 clubs from 25 countries take part in the ULEB Cup. On any given Tuesday night in fall and winter, ULEB Cup action could be followed in up to 10 national capitals among 27 European cities stretching from middle Russia to the Canary Islands, or from Jerusalem to southern England. In those places and many more, competitiveness is the standard and love of basketball the sentiment that unites all ULEB Cup participants!

2007 - Real Madrid is the champion

History was made at the Spiroudome in Charleroi, Belgium on April 10, 2007 when Real Madrid added the ULEB Cup crown to its extensive collection with a 75-87 win over Lietuvos Rytas. In a night in which it set team records with 10 threes and 6 blocks, the ULEB Cup title gave Madrid, the winningest team in European basketball history, its first European title in a decade after the club came up short in the ULEB Cup final three years ago against Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem in that very same building. Real now has 14 continental titles – including eight European Cup championships, and it also clinched a ticket to play in the 2007-08 edition of the Euroleague. Felipe Reyes turned in an heroic outing to keep Madrid close in the first half and then Charles Smith erupted with a record-setting performance in the second half to lead Madrid to victory. Smith joined a select list of stars as the ULEB Cup Final MVP as he finished with 19 points by making six three-pointers – a record for most triples in the final.
