Benetton Basket head coach: Oktay Mahmuti
Oktay Mahmuti - Benetton BasketIn his first full season at the head of Benetton Basket's bench, Oktay Mahmuti has one of Europe's best-known clubs poised for a return to greatness. Thanks to Mahmuti's guidance, Benetton has an opportunity to win its first continental crown in a decade. Mahmuti joined Benetton early last season with a reputation for success based on seven seasons at Efes Pilsen during which his teams won four Turkish League and three Turkish Cup crowns, while twice coming within a whisper of Euroleague Final Four. He joined Benetton in November of 2007, but despite a winning record in the Italian League, the team fell one victory short of a playoff berth. This season, Mahmuti has already made Benetton an Italian Cup semifinalist and one of the first Final Eight qualifiers. Although he’s known as a defensive specialist, Mahmuti’s team is keeping up Benetton's offensive traditions, too, ranking first in assists among all Eurocup teams, second in steals and performance rating, third in scoring and three-point accuracy. It all added up to the fourth-best overall record for the Eurocup season, second-best in the Top 16. Now, the tested hand of Oktay Mahmuti assures that Benetton Basket will not lack for expert leadership in Turin.
