Zadar head coach: Zmago Sagadin
|
Although he arrived late, one of European basketball's coaching deans was certainly up to the task of qualifying KK Zadar for the Final Eight. Over three decades, Zmago Sagadin has earned a reputation for developing young talent and for leading unheralded teams to unexpected success. After joining Zadar during the Last 16, he is now aiming to secure the club’s biggest European achievement ever. Sagadin started coaching for Celje and Maribor in his native Slovenia before joining Union Olimpija as an assistant. Promoted to head coach in 1991, when Slovenia became independent, Sagadin proceeded to guide Olimpija to domestic dominance. Together they won every possible Slovenian League and Slovenian Cup title from 1992 to 1995. Although he would leave and return twice, by the time Sagadin’s three stints totaling 17 years with Olimpija had finished, they had shared 20 domestic and one European trophy, the 1994 Saporta Cup. He also supplied Olimpija’s least-expected success, a place in the 1997 Euroleague Final Four. Sagadin has since coached at Crvena Zvezda - winning a Serbian Cup title - at Lietuvos Rytas of Lithuania and at Anwil Wloclawek of Poland, last season. Now, having made it to the Final Eight together, Sagadin and Zadar are a threat to beat expectations again!
