Pamesa Valencia head coach: Neven Spahija
|
In his first season with Pamesa Valencia, head coach Neven Spahija has brought with him the kind of success that few, if any, coaches can match. In a 13-year head coaching career that has spanned seven countries, Spahija has harvested titles in one regional and five national competitions. He might, in fact, hold a basketball coaching world record for the sheer variety of national trophies he has lifted. Spahija's winning ways started in his native Croatia with Cibona and continued to Slovenia with Krka Novo Mesto, to Russia with Saratov, to Italy with Roseto, to Lithuania with Lietuvos Rytas, to Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv and to Spain with Tau Ceramica. Only in Russia and Italy did he miss becoming domestic champion, but he also added the Baltic Cup title while at Lietuvos Rytas. Last season, Spahija coached in his first Euroleague Final Four and won the Spanish League title with Tau Ceramica. Coincidentally, Spahija was on the opposing bench for Novo Mesto when Pamesa won its first international trophy, the 2003 ULEB Cup. Six years later, with a continental title being one of the few he lacks, Spahija plans to conquer Europe's second competition once again for Pamesa’s trophy case – and his own.
