Akasvayu Girona announced a major signing over the weekend by bringing in big man Predrag Drobnjak. The contract was for one season with a team option for the 2008-09 season. Drobnjak (213, 32) is coming off a stellar season with Partizan Belgrade in which he averaged 15.7 points and 6.5 rebounds in 20 Euroleague games, helping the club to the Top 16. Drobnjak boasts a rich basketball career that has seen him play for some of the top teams in Europe and overseas. He began his career with Partizan and then spent three seasons in Turkey with Efes Pilsen before moving to the NBA. In America, Drobnjak played for Seattle, the Los Angeles Clippers and Atlanta. He returned to Europe to play for Tau Ceramica in 2006 and returned to his boyhood club last season. Among his career highlights are winning the gold medals at the 2001 and 2003 world championships with the Yugoslavian national team, reaching the 2006 Euroleague Final Four with Tau and both the Adriatic League and Serbian championship last season with Partizan.
