Asvel brings forward Amara Sy back home
Asvel Basket has signed forward Amara Sy for the next two seasons, bringing the forward back to the club where he has previously spent five seasons. Sy (202, 27) arrives from Greek side AEK Athens, where he averaged 9.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last season. He grew up with Asvel, playing for the club between 1999 and 2002 and later between 2005 and 2007. In between he spent three seasons with Le Mans. Sy helped Asvel win the 2002 French championship and the 2001 French Cup and helped Ke Mans win the 2004 French Cup. His best individual season came with Asvel in 2006, when he averaged 12.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in 34 French League games and 11 points and 3.9 boards in 14 ULEB Cup games, helping the club reach the competition’s quarterfinals. Sy helps take the place of Gabe Muoneke, who was released earlier this month.
