Neven Spahija takes over at Pamesa
Neven SpahijaPamesa Valencia has named Neven Spahija as its new head coach. Spahija takes over for Fotis Katsikaris, who along with general manager Johnny Rogers was dismissed on Monday as the club looks to head in a new direction. Spahija, who led Tau Ceramica to the Spanish League title last season, signed through the end of next season. He closes a circle by coming to Pamesa, the club that denied him his first major title. As a young coach, Spahija took Slovenian side Krka Novo Mesto to the 2003 ULEB Cup Final, only to fall to Pamesa for the first crown in competition history.

Spahija's coaching career includes stops at Gradine Pula and Cibona in his native Croatia, Novo Mesto in Slovenia, Avtodor Saratov in Russia, Roseto in Italy, L. Rytas in Lithuania, Maccabi Electra in Israel and of course Tau in Spain. Spahija was also the head coach for the Croatian Under-22 and senior sides. Among his career highlights are winning a pair of Croatian championships, and one league championship each in Slovenia, Lithuania, Israel and Spain, plus a Baltic League title and an appearance in the 2003 ULEB Cup Final. He also coached Croatia to the silver medal at the 2001 World Under-22 Championships.
